Action for Mental Health

At Mind Nest Uganda, we believe that mental health thrives when people connect across cultures, generations, and communities through conversations that heal, empower, and unite.

Our Vision

A world united in mental health understanding, where intentional mental health conversations bridge cultural diversity and generational wisdom to eradicate stigma and elevate well-being.

Our Mission

To collaborate with diverse communities, cultures, and generations to create a global movement of mental health awareness and acceptance through conversations.

Our Objectives

  • To boost awareness and understanding of mental health issues in an effort to create a society that better values mental health through the availability and accessibility of minimum mental health care for young people in schools/learning institutions, places of worship, and in the communities.
  • To provide a support network for families struggling with their children’s mental health issues
  • Champion community participation in mental health service development, and stimulate efforts towards self-help in the community
  • Conduct research that informs policy and practice for the well-being of both those living with mental health issues and those affected by mental health challenges.
  • Seek education sponsorship for children/adolescents/young people from vulnerable communities.
  • Promote inclusive learning in schools and higher learning institutions, particularly for individuals living with invisible disabilities.
  • Act as a link between young mental health trainees/internees and other mental health institutions/practitioners as a way of attracting more personnel to the mental health field, while offering mentorship platforms for all beginning mental health practitioners in Uganda.
  • Increase mental health awareness among informal care providers (traditional healers, traditional leaders, and religious leaders).
  • To organize and support campaigns challenging systemic discrimination based on mental health disabilities

Our Future Plans

Establish MIND Nest Uganda mental health responsive centers for demystifying mental health while normalizing mental health conversations in Uganda.
Develop an online and phone mental health support service staffed with experienced youth mental health professionals so as to provide young people and carers with a safe, secure, and anonymous place to talk to a professional wherever they are.
Provide youth-specific mental health education tools and access to mental health specialists for young people in primary and secondary schools across the country. Through training and education, school staff and parents can better support students experiencing or those affected by mental health issues.
